Squires Engineering, Inc. develops software and hardware/software products to a prototype stage. Development is done on either a fixed price contract basis or on a level-of-effort basis, depending upon the scope and the assessed risk.

Key Benefits:

  • Clients avoid the costs of hiring employees for a short-term in-house development.
  • Clients avoid the costs and the learning curve associated with buying and applying specialized hardware and software development tools.
  • We can probably do a better job than most clients can, simply because development work is what we do all the time.

Capabilities and Examples:

Microprocessor-based embedded hardware and software

  • Some of the processors we've worked with are: Z80, 8080, 8031/8048, 8051, 80188, 80386, 68000, 68020, TI 320C80, 8-bit AVR micros (ATtiny24, ATmega325, AT90CAN128, etc.), AVR 32-bit AT32UC3A0512, Philips 89C668.
  • We've worked with VRTX, pSOS+, uCOS, FreeRTOS, and numerous proprietary kernels.

Operating Systems

  • We have worked with several UNIX-variants such as FreeBSD, IBM AIX, Sun OS and Solaris, Linux and Novell's UnixWare.
  • We work extensively with Microsoft products and tools including Windows 95/98/XP/2000, Access, Windows NT/2000 Server, Visual Studio Enterprise Edition, SQL Server 6.5/7/2000, Microsoft Transaction Server, Internet Information Server (IIS), Active Server Pages (ASP/VBScript). We have written NT Services in both Visual C and Borland Delphi. We have developed a Windows NT NDIS 3 NIC driver for a proprietary network interface card design.
  • FreeRTOS and lwip for AT91SAM7X and 32-bit AVR UC3A
  • Atmel's software framework for AVR32 UC3A

Protocols and/or Standards

  • HDLC
  • ATCS (Advanced Train Control System)
  • DNP 3.0
  • IEC 870-5
  • Ethernet (IEEE 802.3)
  • IP, UDP, TFTP
  • 802.11
  • SPI Bus

Security and Encryption

  • Our recent Windows NT development has focused on providing secure remote administrative tools utilizing Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and digital certificates for client authentication.
  • We are also looking at other security methods for client authentication such as Smart Cards and Fingerprint Identification Units.

Reference Accounts:

Brooks Enterprises of Brevard
A custom networked Access database application (IPAS) was developed for generating price quotations on selected lots drawn from a massive automobile parts inventory. This software is run on numerous workstations that are networked to a central database file server. The server database contains well over a million parts.
Spatron Industries (STI)
A printed circuit board test system was custom designed and built to order for STI. This Windows-based system performs production tests of assembled circuit boards using off-the-shelf data acquisition and RS-485 interface components.
Gold & Silver Reserve (G&SR)
Since mid-1997, Squires Engineering, Inc. has been taking an ever increasingly active role in providing software development services to G&SR. G&SR is presently providing a one-of-a-kind secure web-based payment system based upon accounts containing precious metals (visit e-gold on the Internet at http://www.e-gold.com). Leading edge development is currently being performed in the areas of digital signatures, Smart Cards, and Fingerprint Identification Units. New Microsoft technologies such as ASP, MTS, DTC, COM and DCOM are being actively applied as a new generation of G&SR software takes shape.
